The man behind Longmont’s largest mall is switching roles after a planned sabbatical next year.
After serving for 13 years as NewMark Merrill Mountain States’ managing director and principal, Allen Ginsborg will be taking a half-year off to “volunteer abroad and travel with his wife, Jeanne, and daughter, Jackie, before she begins college,” according to a news release from the company. Upon returning, Ginsborg will assume the role of chairman and cofounder.
“We’re going to work with the youth and business entrepreneurs in India doing some volunteer work with them,” Ginsborg said Monday. Among other volunteer work, he said he and his family will “do some fun stuff in-between.”
The new role Ginsborg will step into after returning will see him performing many of the same responsibilities, he said, though Danaria McCoy, who has been promoted to vice president of operations and marketing, will take over some.
“I’m still effectively principal,” he said.
Sanford Sigal, president and CEO of NewMark Merrill Companies, said he’s glad Ginsborg is taking some time off and spending it with his family.
“I’m super excited that he built up a team like we have now that I think is going to bring new energy, new ideas and new creativity to what we do in Colorado,” said Sigal, who has known Ginsborg for decades and founded NewMark Merrill’s Colorado division with him. “We’re huge fans of Colorado and think the potential of that market is incredible.”
NewMark Merrill Mountain States is the Colorado division of NewMark Merrill Companies, founded by Ginsborg and Sigal. The company owns and operates Village at the Peaks, the Longmont shopping center that replaced Twin Peaks Mall and opened its first stores in 2015, and Ginsborg oversaw the years-long project.
NewMark Merrill Mountain States purchased Twin Peaks Mall, a property it had managed, earlier in the decade and demolished it to build a new shopping center. And though there were some hiccups along the way, Ginsborg said NewMark Merrill Mountain States has filled around 99% of the available locations there.
The firm also announced it hired Alex Staneski in the role of vice president of leasing and acquisitions for NewMark Merrill’s Longmont office. The company also announced two other promotions Monday, with Ross Carpenter moving into the role of director of leasing and Renatta Banning starting as a property and marketing manager.
“I think it’s always good to bring people up who have talent and who have a very, very good tenure in our office already,” Ginsborg said. “And so to bring people up and give them the opportunity to grow and expand their skill sets, it’s great.”
