NewMark Merrill Company Launches Program to Help Communities During Covid Crisis – Gives Away $14,000 in Groceries

Woodland Hills, CA. (May 5, 2020) – NewMark Merrill Companies, a Woodland Hills, California-based retail shopping center development company, announced that it launched “Wave of Kindness,” a program designed to help our communities during the COVID health crisis.

Kicking off the program, earlier this month the company worked with its grocery partners to give over $14,000 in groceries to more than 380 families as they checked out.  Guests were encouraged to continue the Wave of Kindness in their communities. Several declined the free groceries as they were still gainfully employed, allowing us to double up efforts for those in great need.  Centers and grocery partners included:

  • Village at the Peaks (Longmont, CO): Sam’s Club
  • Stony Island (Chicago, IL): Jewel
  • Southgate Plaza (Sacramento, CA): 99Ranch Market
  • Crenshaw Imperial Plaza (Inglewood, CA): Grocery Outlet
  • El Cajon Town & Country (El Cajon, CA): Grocery Outlet
  • Norwalk Town Square (Norwalk, CA): Grocery Outlet
  • Mission Marketplace (Oceanside, CA): Sprouts

“While the retail industry is experiencing its challenges, it is our communities that need our help and support first and foremost during this crisis,” said Sandy Sigal, NewMark Merrill Chief Executive Officer.  “We will continue to implement strategies to help our communities during this challenging time.”

NewMark Merrill will continue to grow our Wave of Kindness program with future efforts in the works to feed medical workers and first responders, and provide kits to the unsheltered.

While shopping at Grocery Outlet at Norwalk Town Square, a woman who described herself as a single-grandmother to five said, “This is the best thing that’s ever happened to me. Thank you and God bless you!”
